This photo was taken from the mainland. The two islets are marked by the statue/building of Tiruvalluvar and next to it, the Vivekananda Rock.
Tiruvalluvar was a Tamil scholar and was said to have written 1330 kurals (slokas) and is considered one of the greatest ethical works in Tamil literature.
The Vivekananda Rock is named after a influential Hindu spiritualist leader, Vivekananda, specialized in philosophies of Vedanta and Yoga.
He shot to fame in the Western world, after his famous speeches on Eastern thoughts and religions at the World's Parliament of religions in Chicago, USA. During his visit to Kanyakumari, he swam to this rock and meditated for three days.
Well, anyways, after that load of information, a good point to be
addressed is the famous 'footprints' present inside the memorial. The sacred place is known as the 'Sripada Parai', which means that the rock has been blessed by the touch of ‘the sacred feet’ of the Devi.
Only problem to be pointed out, is the fact that you have to wait in a long line for the boat to take you to the memorials, especially during seasons. Boats are also cancelled due to sudden and dangerous waves in the sea.
